Alchemy x Kunsthall Stavanger (Norway)

Mobilizing Citizenship (MC) is an educational and research project where Norwegian and international artists and designers are invited to work with a small group of youth at Kunsthall Stavanger during one semester.

During the autumn holiday week Goldsmiths Alchemy was invited to work with the young Kunsthall Stavanger community. Participants were invited for one week of workshops on writing, music creation, production and performance, leading to the creation of a collaborative digital mixtape and live event. The workshop ran Monday – Friday from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm with lunch included. Participation was free of charge and no prior music knowledge was required. Mikey Kirkpatrick, Martin Vito, Omar Elsaaidi and Timothy Wairama delivered the workshops.

The overall focus of MC is to investigate how young people can use tools and methods from contemporary art to express themselves and be heard in today’s society. MC is not a talent development programme, but rather an investigation into how contemporary art can be a relevant contribution in young people’s lives.

You can read more about it on the Alchemy Blog (coming soon), the Kunsthall Stavanger website and watch some behind the scenes footage here:
