Welcome to our online exhibition, from the students of MA Children’s Literature: Children’s Book Illustration 2020 at Goldsmiths, University of London.
On this site you will find a page introducing each graduating student, with samples of work from our final project this year. We have each created a 32 page picture book illustrating either a chosen text, or a story we have written ourselves. We also each created a wordless sequential narrative piece.
Despite the difficult circumstances we found ourselves in this academic year, we have all managed to create some beautiful work, each student developing their own style and creative language. We are incredibly grateful to our tutors Bruce Ingman and Colin McNaughton for their experience, passion, and constant encouragement throughout. We were also very lucky to have the support of inspiring visiting lecturers, including Daniel Devlin, Lizzy Stewart, Jessica Spanyol, Charles Shearer, Neal Layton and Mini Grey.
Our module with the wonderful Katharine Smales provided us with
a fantastic insight into the Children’s Publishing industry, and got us thinking creatively about ways to market our own projects.
We are also very grateful to the lecturers from the Children’s Literature and Education Departments, including Julia Hope, Laura Teague, Vicky Macleroy, Alison Griffiths, John Wadsworth, Betty Liebovich, Michael Rosen and Esther Sayers. These modules were challenging and thought provoking, and have provided immense value to the development of our own work.
In addition to this, we had the privilege of visiting both Walker Books and Egmont publishers this year. We would like to thank them both for having us, and taking the time to create such informative and encouraging presentations.
Finally, huge thanks to the staff and children of St James Hatcham Primary school for allowing us to visit their lovely school for our observational drawing studies. It gave us such valuable experience.
Thank you for looking at our website, we hope you enjoy our online exhibition!
