Alumni Commission Award 2023

Tara White was the recipient of Goldsmith’s Exhibitions Hub Alumni Award 2023.

The project was curated and coordinated by the Exhibitions Hub (Goldsmiths, Department of Art) in partnership with the Women’s Art Library and Southwark Park Galleries.

Building on archival research conducted at The Women’s Art Library, Tara White presented Beyond These Walls There’s Courage at Southwark Park Galleries from the 9th- 24th September 2023.

The exhibition examined everyday intricacies of performance, questioning how we might censor or distort our behaviours in public and private realms. The installation looked into the emotional contours of grief, thinking through how mourning shifts within family and activist settings.

Moving fluidly between sculpture, photography, print and performance, this exhibition served as an ode to overlooked elders who laid the foundation for the current Women Life Freedom uprisings, whilst Tara decidedly carved space for queer representation within this political sphere.
