2020 Edition

September 2020

The idea of creating this Festival was inception from our lecturers at the MA Events and Experience Management. When we started talking about it, it just seemed like a distant project that maybe we could someday make happen. Then, as we started talking more about it, more and more ideas were coming to our minds, and there were many scenarios we were dreaming of. This was supposed to be a face-to-face festival that could take place across campus with different film activities around the film projections and with a link towards the Lewisham community.

Unfortunately, Covid-19 happened, and we just dropped the idea. So much was going on that ‘who would care about our film festival’, we thought. It took weeks of readjustment to our new lives before we could think of planning an online festival but happily, we decided to take that step. We started having video-calls from our different geographies about how we could make it work and then, suddenly, we were on board. From Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, and Mexico City we were organizing an online event for our Goldsmiths community that was now not only based in London but all over the globe!

Thank you to the participants of this edition, that trusted us and made us part of their journey as filmmakers. Thank you to everyone that submitted a project, although sadly we were not able to play them all. Thank you to the Goldsmiths staff that so kindly gave us their advice and helped us to get back in track when needed. Thank you to this lovely team that, despite the difficulties along the way, we made it: the first edition of the Goldsmiths Film Festival.

We hope that the next edition of this Festival is possible and that this can become a space where the Goldsmiths community talent can be showcased and celebrated. We have enjoyed watching all of your films, reading your emails, and finding new ways of being together. We hope you enjoy it too.

With love,
