We, Clémentine Bedos, Angela Loum, Sula Douglas-Folkes, Devina Paramdeo, Mia Tuckey and Adriana Arroyo are PhD students at Goldsmiths, University of London. Our research is funded and supported by Goldsmiths Generation Delta. Together we run the Generation Delta PGR network at Goldsmiths, which is open to Black, Asian and minority ethnic female-identifying doctoral students from all disciplines. We aim to to create a supportive safe space to discuss methods to nurture our paths into academia.
Currently, Black and racially minoritised women account for 2.3% (355) of UK professors; Black African and Caribbean are less than 1% UK professors (Advance HE, 2020). Generation Delta aims to redress both institutional and individual barriers experienced by women at various stages of their PGR life cycle, through the delivery of a programme that recognises the impact of intersecting inequalities on access and progression in academic careers.
Building on the multi-disciplinarity of our individual research projects, our network covers a wide range of key topics that are yet often underfunded and overlooked: from the relationship between shamanic practices and immersive technologies, to misrepresentation and the stigma of Black women’s pain during childbirth, through the impact of the residential area on the operation of parental school choice and Black women’s film-making. We all approach our research through rigorous, innovative and creative methodologies, offering community-and care-based responses to the most anguished cultural realities of our current times.
The Network runs monthly sessions which are designed to offer a supportive safe space for Black and racially minoritised researchers at Goldsmiths.

The network is open to women who identify as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic.
The Network has been supported by Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art and our current meetings take place at the Richard Hoggart Building.
