Silent auction for EduHaitian features work from Design Department
I’ve always really enjoyed seeing my course mates’ work.
Also, I have an unlimited amount of admiration for the work of EduHaitian, the small charity supporting children’s education in Haiti that my dear friend and Goldsmiths alumna Olivia Owen (BA International Studies, 2015) set up and runs.
That will pretty much give you the recipe for:
Framed Designers: a silent auction raising funds for EduHaitian featuring work from the Design Department.
Studying and graduating from a cross-disciplinary design course, it is sometimes difficult to define our work. The pieces you’ll see at Framed Designers will be two dimensional: extracts of design processes, sketches, preliminary research, final pieces, or example of side practices that inform our design practice (photography, illustration, writing, etc).
Olivia Owen just graduated while running her own charity. She co-founded EduHaitian when she came back from volunteering after the earthquake. EduHaitian supports children’s education in Haiti by sponsoring them (tuition fees, uniforms, books, etc). EduHaitian is not trying to impose Western education ideals, but simply supports the great work the school does there and offers the chance for children whose families could not afford to send them to school otherwise. EduHaitian also tries as much as possible to source their resources locally to support the local economy.
If you’d like to support EduHaitian and have a look at the work of current Design students and recent Design graduates, please come along on the 2nd of September 2015 at the 310 New Cross Road exhibition space. The silent auction will be happening from 6pm to 9pm. The funds raised during the silent auction will go entirely towards the support program of EduHaitian and to the exhibitors.
