Supported by the Annual Fund: Kathy Rae Huffman Archive
The Goldsmiths Annual Fund is proud to support recipient Stephanie Moran to bring part of curator Kathy Rae Huffman’s archive to the heart of the local community and provide a platform for less well-represented areas of recent Art History. Stephanie was awarded £1,500 from the Goldsmiths Annual Fund to support part of this yearlong programme by Goldsmiths, University of London and Deptford-based gallery Res.
Stephanie works at Goldsmiths as the Subject Librarian for Art and the Institute of Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship and Financial Assistant for the Centre for Cultural Studies. She has also been awarded a Research and Enterprise Committee Fund grant to document the process of practice research in response to the collection, which is supported by Dr Nina Wakeford in the Department of Sociology.
Kathy Rae Huffman
Kathy Rae Huffman’s collection, which was donated to the Goldsmiths Library, is global and focuses on women and feminist media art in Eastern and Central Europe. Her career spans over 40 years encouraging artists to engage with technology ranging from experimental video art, new media art, net.art and cyberfeminism.
Staff from the Goldsmiths Library’s Special Collections and Archives are working alongside Res. and students and staff in the Department of Visual Cultures and MFA Curating programme to deliver a yearlong programme of events and exhibitions in response to international curator Kathy Rae Huffman’s collection. The programme will take place across several venues including the Women’s Art Library at Goldsmiths, Res., and others to be confirmed.
The preview of curator Kathy Rae Huffman’s collection as part of this yearly programme was held on 28 June 2016 at the Reading Room at Res Gallery and opened from 29 June to 6 August 2016.
Res. is also calling for submissions from both writers and artists in response to this prestigious collection. Selected works will then make up an exhibition alongside historical works, a new publication and a series of events at Res. in spring 2017.
