Dr Oonagh Murphy asks ‘Can Beyonce Save Art History?’

In late October, Dr Oonagh Murphy, was invited to contribute to RES|FEST at the Ulster Museum. RES|FEST is a vibrant and dynamic event showcasing innovative perspectives on the visual arts, curating and art history.

Entertainment ranges from fast-paced lightning talks given by distinguished speakers addressing stimulating questions, to moving spoken-word pieces created in response to works of art located in the museum – including a piece by the modernist artist, Amedeo Modigliani, that is currently on loan from The Courtauld Gallery.

Launched in 2017 at The Courtauld Institute of Art and The Courtauld Gallery, RES|FEST has welcomed a diverse and talented array of individuals from a variety disciplines to demonstrate why culture matters. Dr Murphy used the work of Beyonce, in particular the recent single ‘APES**T’ to provoke debate around the role and purpose of museums in contemporary society.

Dr Oonagh Murphy’s talk, Can Beyoncé Save Art History is now available to view on YouTube.
