Lost town centre shop / amenity
Quaggy, Woolworths, Wimpy
Memories / recollections
We used to play in the Quaggy as kids. We were all brought up the same – no money but we looked after each other.
If you were good – really good – we were taken to Wimpy.
We had one coal fire and a tin bath out in the yard, we had a mangle. We lived in one house – two families. Everybody looked out for everybody.
We visited Woolworths and we’d buy the packs of broken biscuits.
The milkman would come every day. Women would nip out and buy food fresh, that was part of their job.
There were horse and carts going up and down the street.
