Latin America: Life and Death of the State (film series, 2016)

The documentary film seriesLatin America: Life and Death of the State’ aims at looking into Latin America’s complex territory in order to observe, identify and inquire on its social, political and cultural features. The series runs films revolving around the State: from the independence processes to the neoliberal hegemony, including the construction of a modern society, the failure of its emancipation processes, and the place and role of women along the years. Throughout cinema and conversation, the series will look at the historical configuration and current situation of the Latin American States.

The series will be screened at the Ben Pimlott Lecture Theatre, and is supported by the Unit of Global Justice, Department of Sociology, Goldsmiths.

  • 18/03. Dead when I got here (2014, UK, 72 minutes), directed by Mark Aitken.
