Familiar forms often negate further examination and in this piece, ‘Cardboard Box’ the container has become the content, with the juxtaposition of strength and fragility. Cardboard is a resilient material used in a whole host of ways, yet often discarded. Scraps of cardboard were used to make impressions on clay slabs, and during the kiln firing, this form burst at the seams. This was pertinent to my thinking around containment, as a result of experiences on placement, and at Goldsmiths as a training institution.

A great exploration into the cardboard box as a means of containment 👏🏼
My favourite exhibit. I was astounded not only by your ability to make this look like cardboard with clay, but the idea that its roughly-treated, deceiving appearance makes a worthy, solid container speaks so much to the work we do. Maybe it’s a wish of mine or maybe hope. Thank you for the experience of your art piece.
