‘Haptic Nature’ is extended reality piece. It invites participants to embark on a tactile journey, where forgotten or discarded objects from the physical world are given a new lease on life within the virtual realm. This transformation occurs through the hands of individuals, who breathe fresh vitality into these objects, rejuvenating them within the virtual landscape. For instance, we envelop e-waste within soft materials, such as batteries, which, in the virtual world, take on the form of ethereal creatures like birds or elephants crafted from clouds. In ‘Haptic Nature,’ a haptic interactive ecosystem is created, bridging the gap between the physical tactile sense and these virtual beings. The narrative evolves as the audience explores diverse tactile sensations, granting them a unique and personalized experience. To fully immerse themselves in this virtual world, participants engage with a physical installation that mirrors the virtual space on a 1:1 scale. By integrating their physical bodies into the virtual environment, they become tangible components of the VR experience.
My name is Wei Lin, I am an interactive visual designer / artist. I am fascinated by the possibilities art and technology intersect like physical installation art, light, video, mechanical, ai and virtual space. Nature is one of my most important sources of inspiration during my artistic journey. I am deeply touched by and connected to the serenity and grandeur of nature. I believe that it is possible for the universe to indulge in the beauty of a rainbow. It has become part of my artistic language. Through my works, I strive to establish a new way for human beings to experience the natural world, building new ways to connect with nature.
