Professor Bertha Ochieng
Professor Bertha Ochieng PhD is Professor of Integrated Health and Social Care, De Montfort University.
She has extensive experience of health and social care provision as a clinician, an academic and as a researcher working with community groups and service providers.
Her research focus is on improving population health and wellbeing through the provision of high quality education and research that provides positive results to marginalised and social disadvantage populations throughout the life span.
Her work has resulted in collaborations with voluntary organisations, health and social care teams, nationally and internationally.
Her research portfolio includes: co-creation of self-care strategies for maintaining wellbeing, community empowerment and engagement to enable the voices of marginalised and socially disadvantaged populations to be heard in the planning and delivery of services.
Professor Ochieng has published extensively and has received the Mary Seacole Leadership Award.
She says that she sees herself as an academic and community activist and enjoys her work because it gives her the scope to improve people’s lives.
