Professor Marcia Wilson
Professor Marcia Wilson PhD is the founding Dean of the Office for Institutional Equity at the University of East London.
Her awards include the UEL Student-Led Teaching award for ‘Best Lecturer’ in 2014 (nominated by her students and chosen from a field of over 400 lecturers); the ‘Pay It Forward’ Inspirational Women’s Award in 2016; the Precious Award for her leadership work in 2018; and the UEL’s Vice Chancellor and President’s Award in 2019 for Teaching and Learning – Leader of the Race Equality Charter Mark Self- Assessment Team.
Professor Wilson’s key focus is working with staff and students to close the degree awarding gap (aka attainment gap) and to ensure that the University’s policies and practices are fit for purpose.
She says that she thoroughly enjoys her job because the heart of her work involves creating a cultural change in the University.
This will positively impact the experience of her students as well as her colleagues.
Given that the University of East London is one of the most diverse universities in the UK, she finds it particularly rewarding, enriching and fulfilling to connect with different members of the community and to work collaboratively to transform the institution into a place that all can reach their potential.
