Biography

Dan Denis is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Notre Dame, and prior to that was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School. He completed his PhD at the University of Sheffield. He is a long-time collaborator of the Goldsmiths Sleep Lab, having had his interest in sleep fostered while working in the lab as an undergraduate research assistant and Master’s student.

Dan has wide-ranging interests centered around the broad question of how sleep relates to cognition and health. His research uses electrophysiological techniques (EEG) to better the understand the mechanisms by which sleep supports cognitive functions such as memory and emotional processing, in both healthy and clinical populations. He is also interested in the application of behavioral therapies in treating insomnia and associated issues. Finally, he has published extensively on the nature and correlates of ‘anomalous’ sleep experiences such as sleep paralysis and exploding head syndrome.
