Goldsmiths has a history of community engagement and still engages with grassroots issues at the local level as well as engaging in teaching and research with a global reach. It’s teaching and research are underpinned by a commitment to social justice.

The Department for Social, Therapeutic and Community Studies (STACS) at Goldsmiths has a record of practice-based research and resource development in social work, mental health, and youth and community work.

We have a record of partnership work with local, national and international organisations. The STACS department at Goldsmiths has been training youth workers for over 50 years. Its staff are experts in youth and community work and the programmes and department have a high reputation across the youth work sector for teaching and research.

The department houses two research centres; the Faiths and Civil Society Unit and the Centre for Community Engagement Research.
