About
Ana is a children’s illustrator with background in early childhood education. She has illustrated five picturebooks published in Georgia since 2017. Her first book “Hipa Chooses a Profession” was awarded with National Children’s Literature Award for the best picturebook. For about a decade, after graduating MA in Human Development and Psychology in Harvard University in 2009, she worked in the field of early childhood education and became passionate about early literacy, picturebooks and picturebook art. After the birth of her son, she returned to her childhood dream and became a… children’s book Illustrator! Ana uses traditional and mixed media techniques in her illustrations to create memorable characters and dramatic compositions. She is interested in representation of child empowerment and loves to play with intertextuality and humour in her illustrations.
Not So Little Red Riding Hood
Not so Little Red Riding Hood is a picturebook revisiting the old story in a new, humorous way. Red Riding Hood is not a little girl anymore. These days she goes to see her granddaughter in the city. And big, grey cities are as scary for an old woman as big, grey wolves for little girls. Poor Red Riding Hood gets lost in the crowded and noisy city. Wandering all day long, she finally finds the house. As if her journey in the city had not been enough hassle already, her granddaughter takes her to the zoo next day, only to discover her old, big, grey acquaintance…
Orchestra in the Bus
Orchestra in the Bus is a wordless narrative of 8 sequential illustrations. Animals with musical instruments start boarding the bus, until the whole orchestra is squeezed in. Among the confused and annoyed passengers, the little toddler in red hat drops a pacifier. Crying out loud, nothing can calm her down, except … a piece of beautiful music played by the unusual orchestra.
