Anh Ho is a Vietnamese illustrator with special interests in landscape painting and illustrated lettering. After getting her BFA degree in Illustration in NYC, she discovers her passion for picture books and wants to pursue a career in children’s literature both as an illustrator and an author, making books that bring comfort to their readers and motivate them to discover the wonder of the world. Whenever possible, Anh tries to weave different aspects of her Vietnamese identity into her artworks. She uses “Mía” as her artist’s name as a tribute to her beloved cat.
“Where are the Jelliebellies?”
Jelliebellies–the Color Monsters, breathe colors into the world. However, in the winter, Jelliebellies are very shy, scattering around and hiding in different places, leaving the town all sad and gray. Plash, a little boy who loves to wander and paint, goes on a little journey to find these monsters and bring colors back to his town. Anh was inspired to write this story after she quite sadly experienced the gray and foggy London winter for the first time. She bases the setting of the story on her hometown in Hanoi, Vietnam.
“An Unexpected Book”
In a noisy world that never stops moving, it is important to find a place that you feel belonged to, comforted and peaceful. For Anh, that is the bookstore. Reading and the joy of reading bring colors to her world. The sequence follows a girl on her unplanned trip to discover a magical bookstore, where readers can live in the world of the books.
