Alongside illustrating, Louise is a primary school teaching assistant living on the outskirts of London. She completed her undergraduate degree in BA Product Design on the beautiful South Coast before making a career change to pursue what she loves doing most – drawing and storytelling! When she’s not sketching in a park or experimenting with her art materials, you might find her enjoying a dog walk or rummaging through a charity shop with a coffee in her hand. Louise hopes her illustrations will evoke feelings of nostalgia and bring a sense of warmth and playfulness to reading for children and adults alike.
The Old Watering Can
Does your Grandma like to keep hold of things that are old or broken? Maybe broken things can bring joy in some unexpected ways…
Based on the fable of ‘The Cracked Pot’ and adapted by the illustrator to be a children’s picture book, ‘The Old Watering Can’ tells the story of a Grandma and her two watering cans. One is new and beautiful, the other old and damaged. Expressing its shame in being broken, the old watering can comes to discover how Grandma perceives its leak not as a flaw, but as a strength.
Big Pool
This sequential narrative; designed to be a single, continuous image, follows a confident, older sister and her younger, more timid sister through a day at their local pool.
Although the story can be interpreted in more ways than one, the illustrator aimed to celebrate a child’s curiosity and imagination, particularly when braving the big pool.
