Shelley Yujia Xie is an illustrator and product designer. Since her childhood, she has been mesmerised by the miraculous power of this particular art form of illustration, a discipline full of wonder and creativity, which builds a world by creating vivid and alluring images. As a fervent fan of children’s literature, she read extensively and was drawn to spheres created by authors and illustrators. Additionally, she enjoys combining illustration with her design process to create beautiful works.
The Moon
An interpretation of a Grimm’s fairy tale that explores the good and evil that lies within each of us. The story is about a man who stole the moon, and then his family members took it to the underworld after he died. Will the world ever be beautiful again without the moon? Will darkness and epidemics ever end? I was inspired by Tomi Ungerer’s words “Evil can be the most fertile ground for good, and good can learn from the cleverness of evil,” As a Chinese who born in Wuhan, how should I face the world after the epidemic? Can I do something better for the world in the time to come?
Spring
The silence sequence is a story that happened in spring. Spring is my favourite season in London, with cherry blossom, everything seems to come to life again. As a sensitive person, I sometimes feel lonely and I want to make some artwork to cheer myself up.
The illustrations aims to give people joy and happiness among loneliness, and sadness during this difficult time.
