Yun-Ting Chu is a Taiwanese illustrator that majored in philosophy in college. Her art style is humorous and she likes to use gouache, acrylic, and pastels to create colorful worlds. The inspirations for her stories come from childhood experiences, books, and little moments in life. She hopes her work can give courage to those who are struggling.
The Unbreakable Egg
One day, an egg fell from the sky in a forest. Although the egg had fallen from a high altitude, it appeared to be fully intact. The animals competed to break the egg to determine who would become the new leader of the forest. However, no matter what means they used, such as biting, digesting, teaching, bullying, or softening, they all failed to crack the egg. When everyone decided to give up, the egg broke from the inside with an ordinary, weak, and helpless chick emerging. This chick became the new queen of the forest eventually.
No matter how external political power operates over the individual, the unbreakable part of life that resides within cannot be destroyed.
All By Chance
When Yun-Ting was living with her parents in Taiwan, one day, she heard her mom, who was watering the flowers on the balcony, say, “I don’t know if the water will drop on a passerby’s head…” A story came to her at that moment.
This is a story driven by many coincidences. The little boy was lonely with no friend until he met the little bird who taught him to sing, that is, to accept and embrace his uniqueness and to find his way of communicating with the world.
