Alumna’s company wins at Small Business Awards

The Strings Club,  founded by Amy Cunningham (MMus Ethnomusicology, 2010) recently won in the category of ‘Scale Up Business of the Year’ at the FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards. The Strings Club is a music education company for children age 4-11, which also has won ‘Business Entrepreneur’ at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.


After completing her masters in Ethnomusicology at Goldsmiths, Amy Cunningham founded The Strings Club with six budding string players and £50 in her pocket. Since then she has gone on to expand the company, and now The Strings Club operates across the West Midlands and London offering a range of programmes, including Holiday Camps, Term Time Classes, Ukulele Parties and School After-School Clubs. In 2018, The Strings Club will aim to offer their award-winning programmes to 25,000 children.

At the Small Business Awards Ceremony on Friday, 16 March 2018, influential businessmen and businesswomen saw The Strings Club win the coveted ‘Scale Up Business of the Year’.

It recognises the business achievements and hard work, brilliance and innovation of some of the UK’s most successful small businesses.

After receiving the award, Director Amy Cunningham said:
