Maps have been a reoccurring motif in my art practice over this past year of training. On the basis of close observations of what happens within each session on placement, I have been forming pictures, or ‘maps’ of each client’s world. These ‘maps’ are never fixed, static constructions. They constantly evolve and change as the therapeutic alliance evolves and changes.

In these maps I’ve been reflecting on the shifts in society over the course of the coronavirus pandemic, particularly the resurgence of anti-racist activism. ‘Inglan Is A Dick’ is a reflection not on Britain, but England’s place in the world as the one-time helm of a global empire that propagated slavery. I drew inspiration from Jamaican-British dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson, and how his testimony to the black immigrant experience of England is at its worst: its parochialism and its cruelty, speaks to the existential crisis England faces in our present moment.
